Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve

An order to establish the West Coast National Park, a proclamation was made in terms of the Physical Planning Act, 1967 (Act 88 of 1967) (Government Gazette vol. 234, 14 December 1984, No. 9525). The Langebaan Nature Area was to be administered in consultation with the, then, South African National Parks Board.

On 30 August 1985 Langebaan Lagoon up to the highwater mark (including the wetlands); Geelbek Annex; a portion of Sixteen-Mile beach adjacent to the farms Stofbergsfontein and Schrywershoek; the Admiralty Zone; portions of State land adjacent thereto; and Marcus, Malgas, Schaapen and Jutton islands were proclaimed as the Langebaan National Park.
